What happened to all those paintings of the ocean? I suppose they were
not "important", but I remember the intensity of the waves and the long hours he
spent on painting the white surf. Do some still hang in Cape Cod vacation
homes?
I read in the Times that in New York an arts administrator rescued an historic
painting from a trash can, and I imagined a Lewis H. seascape
protruding from a trashcan on Charles Street in Boston while throngs of
people walked by without stopping to look.
