Decorated them with colored sugar.
Tina seemed pleased with the expensive water color brushes I had bought
her. "Good brushes are very important," I said. And remembered Lewis
telling me the same thing over 50 years ago. Probably I sounded as
pompous. What the hell.
For Jerry I had painted a small portrait of Luke. Copied the one I had
carried with me for so many years. Copied it more faithfully than usual.
In the end it looked both like Luke and amazingly like Jerry. "Most
people will think it is you," I said.
He looked at it for a long time.
"I brought some photos from Christmas," he said finally. "Want to see
what my Mom looks like?"
