The woods window was a sliding glass door that opened to a lake. Unlike the rectangular, cement-lined pool that was called "The Lake" in Septemberclaver, this lake stretched beyond the range of Clara's eyes. An irregular coast line was bordered with tall grasses that swayed back and forth in the afternoon breeze. Pine trees grew in dense forests that reached to the water's edge.

Early the following morning, with (in addition to all the things she had brought with her), her backpack laden with gifts of food from Donna and the Food Truck man, Clara slid the doors of the Woods Window open. They closed behind her.
