In the direction of the east end of the lake, Clara moved slowly on the rocks along the shore of the lake. They were steep and slippery, split with deep cracks through which water was visible far down below.

About 1/4 of a mile ahead of her, was a dense forest. In order not to get lost in the forest, her plan was to stay on the shore of the lake, no matter how difficult the footing was.
